Julie Lagier

Self-taught artist, Julie Lagier approached photography through bodily performances. Her series Narsismik, beginning in 2017, serves as an outlet for her nightmares; they are also self-portraits.

She quickly understands that photography is a material for defectors, and to create her own artistic language, a subtle blend of surrealism and dreaminess.

Minimalist in the design of her sets, she sticks as close as possible to her favorite subject: the human being, his body, his anxieties, his torments.

The artist uses her distressing nights to transform them into surprising and sensitive images. His works reveal themselves to be a private diary in which humor and poetry appear over the years, creating a unique universe.

Narsismik, Abstract, new series follow one another, using black and white as well as color, the main subject remaining the human, the body, its place through the gaze of others, touching it, before taking it of current and globalized awareness of consent.

Mastering trompe l’oeil and optical effects perfectly, she sometimes allows herself to make adjustments in post-production, once again playing with our perceptions. So despite the subjects covered, the playful aspect allows each image to be approached with more lightness, even combining for some a certain posture of romanticism.
